SABIS® CURRICULUM

Students in SABIS® Network schools follow a dynamic, rigorous, international curriculum that gives them the strong foundation of knowledge and skills they will need to achieve future success.

In a world that is constantly changing, the SABIS® curriculum ensures that students have a solid foundation of knowledge that acts as a springboard for future learning.

Students cover a broad range of subjects including English, mathematics, world languages, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, and computing.

SABIS® Book Series

Students in all SABIS® Network schools use books that have been specifically written and developed for them.  This allows students to follow a natural, sequential progression as they build their knowledge base.

Over 2,000+ titles in the SABIS® Book Series are specifically tailored for every grade level and subject and are aligned with state and national requirements, effectively preparing students for external examinations.

Planning For Success

Students in SABIS® Network schools get the most out of their educational experience as a result of the careful planning and preparation that goes into it.

Because the plan for each stage of the learning process dovetails with that of the following stage, students enjoy a fluid learning process from one concept to the next, from one term to the next, and from one year to the next,  ensuring that nothing essential to future learning is left out.

Planning For Success

The Learning Cycle

Students in SABIS® Network schools benefit from a system that views a successful learning environment as one in which all students can work efficiently through the learning cycle.

As members of a community of learners, all students are actively engaged in the learning cycle.  Every instructional period has distinct learning objectives to be met and includes opportunities for students to work independently and in groups under their teacher’s guidance.

The Learning Cycle

Using Technology in the Classroom

SABIS® has a long-standing commitment to research and development. As a result, our students have meaningful experiences with cutting-edge methods and technologies used to enhance the learning process, improve outcomes, and challenge the boundaries of traditional learning environments.

Examples of technology used in SABIS® Network schools include E-books, interactive whiteboards and accompanying lessons, tablets, and computerized examination halls.

Assessing Progress

Students in SABIS® Network schools engage in regular assessment that helps ensure that every student develops a solid foundation of knowledge and progresses toward the achievement of his or her full potential.

Used to inform the learning process, externally-generated formative and summative examinations occur regularly throughout the school year for students at all ages

In addition to helping students track their progress, regular assessment provides many other benefits.

  • Students learn to perform well under the time pressure.
  • Students develop the ability to organize available time well.
  • Students acquire the ability to focus and sustain concentration for increasingly longer periods.

In SABIS® Network schools, students are assessed in cutting-edge, computerized examination halls and benefit from on-the-spot feedback and resources that enable them to review content on missed questions and then retake the test in the same session.

SABIS® Grades

Students in grades 1-3 cover material over a 4-week cycle that provides the repetition needed for learning. At the end of each 4-week cycle, students are tested and then move on to learn new material.

Starting in Grade 2 and continuing through high school, students are also tested once weekly in both English and mathematics.  In taking these short tests, students can track their progress from week to week.  Teachers and administrators also use the results to identify gaps in students’ foundation as they form and then take steps to support the students in filling the gaps.

In Grade 4 on up, students also take written exams called “Periodic Exams” in other subjects they are studying.  Students typically have two Periodic Exams each term in each subject, providing valuable summative as well as formative data.

Assessing Progress

Follow-up & Support

In SABIS® Network schools, students benefit from ongoing follow-up and support.  Everyone involved in the learning process – students, teachers, administrators, and parents – can monitor progress. Students, working together with their teachers and school administrators, know when gaps are forming.  Then, working as a community of learners, teachers and students focus their efforts on filling the gaps and building a solid foundation.

SABIS® Student Life Organization

Students in SABIS® Network schools around the world are encouraged to become active members of their school community by being a part of the SABIS® Student Life Organization (SLO).

Through SLO, students benefit from many opportunities for academic, emotional, social, and moral growth.

Students learn to:

  • Promote high social, ethical, and moral values
  • Become active, conscientious, community-minded members
  • Develop academic, managerial, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Acquire and refine the attitudes that give them an edge in college and throughout life
  • Form circles of lasting friendship
  • Get involved in a variety of extracurricular activities

Extracurricular Activities

Because the SABIS® Educational System values the development of a healthy body as well as a healthy mind, students are encouraged to join activities following the completion of the academic day.

Voluntary student and staff extracurricular offerings at the SABIS® Network schools typically include sports teams, academic competitions, field trips, and various school-sponsored athletic and non-athletic activities.

Through extracurricular activities, students can develop their interests, refine their talents, and hone their social skills, while building lasting friendships.
