ISM Hosts Visitors from Sister School IAF

On Thursday, April 7, 2011, The International School of Minnesota’s community welcomed 19 students and seven staff members from its sister school, the International Academy of Flint, located in Flint, Michigan.

In Minnesota for their spring break trip, the IAF Grade 12 students spent time at ISM where they had an opportunity to experience student life there for a morning.  ISM’s SLO Head Prefect, Sofia Dar, took care of the details and ensured that both IAF and ISM students would have an enriching experience. “Sofia arranged for ISM juniors and seniors to serve as ambassadors for the visitors. Because of this special touch, IAF students felt right at home,” said an ISM staff member.

Sofia and her fellow ISM classmates were thrilled to show their school to IAF visitors and took great care in coordinating the students’ visit. As such, IAF students attended high school science classes, toured the campus, and enjoyed a pizza lunch with ISM’s SLO Deputy Heads.

“The students became fast friends, swapping contact information before the IAF students headed home!” commented another ISM staff member. ISM and IAF students represented their schools well and have reinforced the bond between the two schools.”

During their trip, IAF students and staff also explored historical sites in downtown Minneapolis and visited the Mall of America, among other activities. In line with SABIS®’s goal of offering all its students with wide-ranging extracurricular activities, the spring break trip provided IAF students with a rich educational opportunity to expand their knowledge, while acquiring the skills and experiences necessary to excel in college and beyond.

ISM was founded in 1985 and currently has an enrollment of approximately 500 students in Pre-K through Grade 12. IAF opened in 1999 and now serves 1,200+ students in grades K-12, approximately 11% of the district’s population. Both these schools implement the efficient and comprehensive SABIS® Educational System, which provides students with a solid academic foundation and prepares them to successfully face the challenges in college and beyond.

Students of ISM and IAF are among SABIS® students in 15 countries on four continents, where they are receiving high-quality education needed to reach their full academic potential.
