ISC-Lahore Student Recognized at Poetry Competition

A student at the International School of Choueifat-Lahore was recently recognized at the Aitchison College Annual Poetry Competition.  Competing against several students from 10 schools, colleges, and universities across Pakistan, 10th grader Salman Mohammed of ISC-Lahore was awarded the first place prize for his poem.

Written and recited in French, Salman’s poem, entitled “If I Die”, impressed the judges and audience members—which included the French Ambassador to Pakistan. “Salman showed a unique talent, creativity, and artistic acumen rarely seen in a young person of his age,” commented ISC-Lahore Director, Ms. Margo Abdel Aziz.

Participants of the poetry competition were judged on their accent, pronunciation, charisma, and creativity. “He was beyond any competition when it comes to his ability and performance in the French language.  His self-confidence and ability of getting hold of tension and stress was just remarkable,” said Ms. Abdel Aziz.

Translated into English, Salman’s poem explored his inner thoughts, “If I die, in a moment, leaving this place. What will be left of my life?” Commenting on his poem topic, Salman said, “I was prompted by my best friend who asked me where I saw myself fifty years from now.”

The school’s high-quality curriculum, provided by the dynamic and efficient SABIS® Educational System, has contributed to the past success of several ISC-Lahore students who have earned top honors at Aitchison College Annual Poetry Competitions and other French poetry contests over the years.  For this year’s winner, the SABIS® system has encouraged him to embrace world languages, one of SABIS®’s core subjects.  “I want French to stay with me all my life,” commented Salman. “It’s not only a language but for me it is a motivation for success.”

Shortly after the competition, ISC-Lahore held a celebration to recognize Salman’s accomplishment and honor the other students who auditioned to participate in the poetry competition. “Students, parents, administrators, and teachers were invited to attend a gathering for celebrating the victory of Salman,” said Ms. Abdel Aziz.  “Moreover, the two other students who took part in the audition but were not selected, were also invited with their parents to acknowledge their efforts and creativity.” At the gathering, all three students recited their poems and received appreciation letters and French books for their achievements.

By providing students with a solid academic foundation that allows for the exploration of a wide range of interests, SABIS® encourages the development of students’ individual talents. Furthermore, SABIS® ensures that students acquire a broad range of skills and experiences so they can become effective and valuable team players, and strong candidates at top universities around the world.
